Introduction

FAKRA is the abbreviation of FAchKReis Automobil (a team of automotive experts, composed of engineers from BMW, Huber-Suhner, Rosenberger and other companies, after Huber-Suhner related connector business and technology was merged into Rosenberger in 2010). Originally used for car radio antenna connections for BMW's needs, Fakra has become a universal standard RF connector in the automotive industry and is widely used.

Functional principle

basic introduction

1. Performance parameters of Fakra connector
  • According to the parameter requirements in ISO 20860.
  • Main electrical performance parameters: transmission frequency 0 ~ 4GHz;
  • characteristic impedance is 50 ohms;
  • maximum carrying current 1A
  • Main mechanical performance parameters: Lock retention force ≥ 100N Error proofing force ≥ 40N
2. Common applications Wireless signal transmission:
  • vehicle AM/FM; GPS; Internet of Vehicles (2~4GHz, including transmitter), remote control, etc.
  • Video signal transmission application: Based on the outbreak of ADAS, it is mainly used in cameras.
3. Relevant standards
  • Design standard: ISO20860;
  • USCAR18 Validation standard: LV214; USCAR2; USCAR17
4. Adapter cable
  • Common cable types: RG 174; RTK 031; RG59; RG179; RG58
5. Waterproof performance

Using the waterproof version of the harness end connector, the IPX7/IPX9K waterproof level can be achieved at the connector mating interface.

The structure of the Fakra connector

1. The overall structure of the board end and wire harness end connectors A common Fakra connector consists of a molded case, an outer conductor, a center conductor, an insulator, a crimp sleeve (harness end connector only), and a secondary lock (harness end connector only).

2. Secondary lock, color + mechanical error proofing Secondary lock: ensures that the terminal is installed in place and increases the retention force of the terminal. Secondary locks are usually purple. Color + mechanical error proofing: There is a structural design on the mating interface of the connector to prevent incorrect mating, and different error proofing structures have different color plastic shells.
