Still Struggling to Assemble Coaxial Cable Connectors?

18/08/2022 Leon

When making a coaxial cable assembly, the first thing to do is to ensure that the coaxial cable and connector types are compatible with each other. In some cases, RF coaxial cables and some RF coaxial connectors can be connected to each other, but some are not compatible with each other due to incorrect dimensions or tolerances.

How to Assemble Coaxial Cable Connectors

When making a coaxial cable assembly, the first thing to do is to ensure that the coaxial cable and connector types are compatible with each other. In some cases, RF coaxial cables and some RF coaxial connectors can be connected to each other, but some are not compatible with each other due to incorrect dimensions or tolerances. There are also cases where RF cables are similar to coaxial cables, but with different types of internal conductors and dielectrics, twinaxial cables are an example.

Assembly steps

1) Select the appropriate coaxial cable and connector;

2) Make sure all coaxial connector components are ready;

3) Cut the coaxial cable to the required length;

4) Install heat-shrinkable tubes, metal rings, washers and/or nuts on the coaxial cable as required by the actual situation;

5) Appropriately process the coaxial cable according to the specifications of the cable and coaxial connector, including cutting and removing the outer sheath and inner insulator part to the appropriate length, and attaching the outer shield and armor to the center conductor. to strip;

6) Prepare and assemble the center conductor of the coaxial cable and the center pin of the coaxial connector by means of press-fit connection, welding, press-fit, press-through, etc., or in other ways;

7) Prepare and assemble the coaxial cable shielding layer (outer conductor) and the coaxial connector shell by means of press-fit connection, welding, winding, etc., or in other ways. The specific operations may include: After assembly, place a ferrule or crimp ring around the coaxial cable or connector;

8) Ensure that the coaxial connector housing has been properly inserted into the coaxial cable by tightening, press fitting or otherwise, and using any suitable sealing gasket or material;

9) Adopt heat shrink tubing or other mechanical stress relief devices that may be attached to the coaxial connector by connecting or otherwise assembling
